Spain 2026 - Day 54 - Sunday April 26 2026 - Camino Day 15 - Hortanas to Castrojeriz - 9.3 KM

Hola

Feel free to click here for this Album.  It includes movies not yet linked in this blog.

As our ride this morning was really short, we took our time getting up and packing.  Breakfast was a breeze onsite.  The ride again was super super easy.  The trail is pretty rough and the bike took the heat well.  We came across the beautiful ruins of Antiguo convento de San Antón.

At the Antiguo convento ruins we saw a map of our upcoming village Castrojeriz.  It showed an image of the Castle of Castrojeriz https://maps.app.goo.gl/nFSHPfbVvKXocCVf9  As we were on track to arrive way too early, we decided to use the power of our bikes to climb up.  It was pretty steep but we made it.  Epic views and very few people.

We bounced into a Polish woman who asked for help with her bike.  She had crashed out and was looking for a tool to make ajustments.  The handle bars were slight off but not a show stopper.  I took her bike for a spin and it was fine.  We later sat down and tried to get some Camino Mapping Apps and Ride with GPS setup for her.  She hd none and needed them.  Our  Albergue opened right on time at Noon and we to hapilly surprised we randomply picked the famous one owned by a Korean woman.  Their staff were awesome and had us in our 8 bed dorm in no time.  Dinner options of Korean food was a no brainer.  After getting our batteries charging we had time for a quick lunch.  My bike had a weird chain skip that felt like a damaged link.  The handle bars were also way out.

The handle bars and grips were easy to reposition.  The chain skip was so weird.  There was a stuck link.  for gears 4-10 it triggered a chain pulse that drove me nuts.  I asked Diego the owner about what to do but it was a Sunday.  Taking a chance on a possibly waked chain I added a few drops of Chain Lubricant our host had.  It solved the problem when Diego replied he uses wax and will meet us anywhere to fix it.  Wow what support.  I indicated I've already compromized the chain with lube and it's fixed for now.  I did not need him to come out and have a future bike shop to grab some wax based luibe.  My chain seemed so dry and clean it might actually not have been waxed.  My waxed chains are really obvious.  Even Michelles looks too clean.  It's too bad a good bike store is way down the road for us.

With the bikes fixed I pivoted to catching up on more blogging notes waiting for our 7 PM dinner.  Quite a few Koreans drank beers up to 7 sso it was a real party.  The food and wine was awesome.  Somehow we escaped any late night partying and were in bed by 8:30 PM in advanced of a great sleep.
