Spain 2026 - Day 11 - March 14 2026 - Ronda - Oh wow.

Although Malaga was warming up nicely, Ronda Spain a 1 hour 45 minute drive from our hotel was quite a bit cooler.  We donned our warm and water proof layers on the bus.  The weather included clouds making photos a bit grey at first.  Once in Ronda our tour group broke into 2.  We soon met XXXX who was called very last minute to assist.  He apologized for appearing flustered as he had to speed a bit to get to our departure location.

The trip to Ronda is quite beautiful passing epic fields of what we think where olives.  It would have made for a beautiful bike ride although the space offered to bikes is a little skimpy.  Once in Ronda we headed immediately to the Bus stop and bathroom  It was a little bit of a mess there.  Once again another poorly designed female bathroom meant the men blasted through whilst the woman had a large queue.  Carl moved the gang close but far enough way to be missed by those exiting the washroom.  I noticed the confusion and stood by redirecting those I recognized to where we were all waiting.  Thankfully nobody was lost and we were soon on tour

Pickpockets are pretty strong here.  Mike Palmer has his wallet taken here.  Lesson learned.  I used my belt/waist thingy for only cash and card.  I carried no knapsack.  After a brief history lesson we were upon the amazing Ronda cliff views and it's bridge,  Holy crap what a site.  I was absolutely astonished at the number of well dressed young people were here.  Carl explained later that as it was Saturday, there were many local University students visiting.

We were lucky enough to have brief glimpses of the sun as we toured,  We took many pictures without the sun only to hope we could return with it.  This is why you may see 2 or more of the same image.

Part of our tour was to visit the Bullring of the Royal Cavalry of Ronda.  Our tour guide tried to sell the idea of this "fight" as an epic battle with honor and respect.  Sure they do respect the animal and do use what it provides but it's not a fair fight.  Why not give the animal the same advantage with it's own weapons?  That might change the conversation.

We eventually landed in https://abadesronda.com/ for lunch.  It was kind of weird as we did not know what to expect for lunch.  Wine, water and bread waited for us on the table.  Not shy we grabbed and opened what we needed.  Soon followed a nice salad, then sliced meat and breaded tuna pizza pocket things and finally a dish of chicken, veggies and French fries.  We were all so stuffed.  The chicken was so tender BTW.  I like the food and service although French Fries are not food to me :-)

I was desperate to get moving and check out Ronda.  We noticed a walkway taking you down a switch back pathway to the river below the city.  Sadly we had only 1 hour which looked like it would take 3 to enjoy.

Ronda is now on our future bucket list for a return long term stay.  So awesome.
