Spain 2026 - Day 23 - Thursday March 26 2026 - Chill Day 11 - Training Day 7 17 KM - Mirador de la Cañada del Lobo to Mirador Sur Monte Calamorro - Birds and Gondola down

I think this was our best hike yet. We are now quite familiar Mirador de la Cañada del Lobo.  I thought a full backpack to the Wolf on Cañada del Lobo would be a good training grind.  It's not all that many KM's but man with 20 ish pounds it's a grind.

Once Buddy finally had some pics of the Wold, (I forgot to bring him the last time), hiking to the Mirador Sur Monte Calamorro seemed easy enough.  It was another uphill grind but on a decent road and not a rocky death wish.

I was honestly feeling the heat at over 800 metres.  Thankfully a really cool cloud surface blew past indicating a front was coming in.  It was a nice cool wind that chilled Michelle and concerned me about it cancelling our Gondola ride home.  I knew at the top of Mirador Sur Monte Calamorro there were both multiple trails to explore as well as a Bird tour.  I was done with climbing for now and happily paid 7 Euros for a 30 minute bird flight demo with Fundación Valle de las Águilas (Valley of the Eagles Foundation). https://www.valledelasaguilasfundacion.com/quienes-somos/

Before the show we met a family from both Spain and Thailand.  Their 2 younger kids asked us why we walked up when we could have taken the simple Gondola.  They were so cute. I teased them with receiving a Canadian pin and they loved it.  The bird show was great.  I hope these birds are treated well as the show is really guided by the acceptance of food.

After the show, Michelle and I contemplated a pretty steep well designed climb to a view point.  Our legs screamed no so we listened. Honestly, the view was a little messed up with the current Air flow.  We soon plan to come back with Mike.  Donna is not interested, bummer.

Purchasing a 1 way gondolla ticket was easy enough at an automated kiosk  The ticket collector was kinda weirded out with our ticket.  I don't think too many people get here by foot.  The collector was helpful to get onto our gondola car with it's short entrance height not being compatible with our packs height.  The ride down was windy and fun.  15 minutes and then some.  At the bottom another ticket agent wanted to scan our pass out.  Maybe they are counting bodies.  Thankfully it was a quick pocket sweep away.

Getting to out hotel had 3 options.  Train, Taxi, Foot.  Foot was cheap and cool as we had not yet seen it.  We walked past the train station and headed toward the Ocean.  It's pretty easy to point yourself down.  A felt a need for a quick detour and wound up picking a beautiful park decent by accident called the Parque de la Paloma https://maps.app.goo.gl/Yt1KiH84E4pPWgWx7

Once on the Ocean walkways we enjoyed only a few more KM's before being able to relax, cleanup and share our wonderful journey.  What a day.  We are so thankful for our healthy bodies :-)
