We literally did nothing today. With our tour's planned excursions, our independent tours and my kind of rigorous training regiment we need a break. We slept until we woke up and ate breakfast when we wanted to. The weather here was a big crummy, colder and windy. This made for others wanting to chill.
It was a good day to focus on the Camino. The first day of our official hike is can be pretty tough. The route from Irun to Pasai Donibane can involve a very steep 600 M climb. The Wise Pilgrim App we use has many warnings about it. Thankfully despite very few places to stay, there are alternate routes that are not as extreme and are adjacent to a road we can bail too. As we are in Irun for 3 nights, we are going to try the hard decent as a training day. If it's a fail, we have a plan B on the easier trails.
There is an Albergue in both Jaizkibel and Pasai Donibane however they do not take bookings. We will have to cross our fingers they are not full as we arrive. It's ok. We will by then have enough training to easily make both destinations. If necessary, once in Pasai Donibane it's not far from many Hotels for our first Camino stay.
Sorry there are no pics from today.
