Spain 2026 - Day 3 - March 6 2026 - Walk to Hotel Ocean House Costa del Sol

Our last night here was pleasant.  Michelle heard huge winds early in the AM.  Those same winds may have caused some go arounds and scary landings for many of the travelers we were soon to meet.  We packed prepared for rain and headed out for breakfast at Guinn's.  I know I ordered a small breakfast.  The nice host and hostess both ordered for me a small breakfast.  What showed up was the large breakfast.  She blamed herself indicating I'd only pay for the small.  I said I'd only pay for the large.  It was a fight between a kind English girl and a kind Canadian guy.  She won I think.  It turned out the cook took a liking to me.  We tipped her kindly.  The owner showed up in time for a thanks and handshake.  We will certainly be back soon.  Hopefully enroute to YYZ after the Camino.

Michelle and I felt strong enough to walk 4 KM with our full gear to our next hotel.  The Train was a close option but we needed to get our legs ready.  The beach side board walk is filled with multiple KM's of shops, restaurants and supports for the astonishing amount of tourists that visit here.  I noticed about 3 KM in that my heart rate was hitting 150 BPM.  This is a good sign of my current baseline.

We were able to check in before the rest of the tour people arrived.  We had about 30 minutes to unpack and head back to the check in desk when we noticed Mike and Donna's gang was unloading.  It was great to greet them before the check-in and help them through the process. Senior Discovery Tours had multiple tours at this hotel at the same time.  Wow, these guys know what they are doing  https://www.seniordiscoverytours.ca/

After a quick check in, Mike and Donna needed help to the 9th floor, a perfect hike for training up the stairs.  Soon after check-in it was lunch.  A crazy selection of food choices I suspect are similar to a cruise ship.  Most of the new arrivals had 24-30 hours of sleep so it was no surprising to see some of them disappear for a huge nap before our 5:30 PM meeting.  Carl, our Tour Manager met us all at 5:30 during Happy Hour.  We had the chance to meet and greet the many travelers with our group.  Carl was very concise with the rules and expectations.   Our 30 day tour has 7 included day trips which would be explained in more detail tomorrow.  Carl indicated a bug is currently moving around the hotel as there is quite a few bodies coming and going.  Thankfully the medical support they offer is impressive and with a Doctors note, there is a reimbursement for any pre paid tours that are missed.  Carl then asked us to stand and walk across to meet a random stranger.  It was neat to experience that.  I find a younger crowd is a bit nervous about this process.  This crowd dove right in and we are all still chatting and introducing ourselves 45 minutes later.

Many noted Michelle and I were had arrived independently from the tour as our Camino Hike required a flight departure far into the future.  Because we stood out, we somehow became Rock Stars when our 900 KM Camino Hike was learned to be the reason.  It's quite interesting how few people knew about the Camino.  I suppose it's our job to inform them.  Dinner was soon upon us.  Way too much food.  It was nice to have a choice of vegetables and salad.  Yum.  After dinner I grabbed a few beers to help with this blogging.  Thankfully our apartment has a great amount of space.  Michelle can sleep in the "bedroom" while I can close some sliding doors and blog away.  The blogging area can and did become a sleeping area for our first night.
